teacher
in the early 1900s:
JAS. H. BLACKWOOD,
Head Master Love Lane School
I haven't identified the first teaching post that Blackwood held, but by 1907-8 he was at the Love Lane School, which was apparently linked to St. Matthew's Church in Allman Town, and was a member of the Kingston Teachers' Association. He was the principal at Love Lane at least until 1910, while also being involved in a variety of activities.
In the December of 1908 Blackwood was one of a team of four teachers who inspected the excellent 'continuation' school run by W. Thomas Linton, which seems to indicate that he was already a respected professional. A year later Blackwood was at the prize-giving of the Boys' Continuation School, paying tribute to Linton's work for young Jamaicans. |
